![]() No one could have seen it coming. Well, that’s a lie, but we live in a world of lies, don’t we? Look out at those shining cities, people smiling on their way to work, children playing in parks and hung-over office workers from last nights party. Doesn’t look so different, does it? Wrong. Welcome to September 1st 1980. Five years after Protection of Magic Initiative was passed through a corrupted and coerced government. Five years after Voldemort, in everything but name, took control of the Wizarding World. Beneath this seemingly normal world is one of darkness. Oh, we don’t watch muggleborns murdered in the street. That would cause mass panic, fear and a generally unproductive society. Instead, these creatures are identified at birth and taken to the Training Compound. Those who are useful are raised and educated in the ways of their betters so they can be useful non-magical members of society, or as some call them, “canon fodder” for the cause. Those who resist are not tolerated, nor ever seen again. Any muggleborn found using combative magic can be executed on the spot. As for the rest of Britain, it exists more or less as it always has. Or does it? General controls may be enforced by a generally unchanged Ministry. Strict controls are dealt with via the Walpurgis Alliance and its members: Death Eaters. They have a main base of operations in London, although where that is, is a need to know basis. However, they can be contacted through their cover company, Hallow Industries, a company dealing with magical problems, including providing training, potions and relocation. Within the Walpurgis Alliance, there are several board members which control the central offices. These are generally run by families, which will span through the generations. The mother cell, the one that controls its subsidiaries, is run by Lestranges. Several other cells exist throughout Great Britain and Ireland, run by several other pureblood families. The “Aristocracy” as they’ve been called. These are the people that make sure things run smoothly. To help this, sweeps are made through the streets at the eleven o’clock curfew. Anyone found on the streets at this time must either have the clearance to do so on their registration card (which contains name, parents, occupation, purity, etc) or can be brought in for questioning. The purebloods could be a little problematic about it. Not all of them wished to uphold their greater duties and behave as they are meant to. To combat this, a facility was set up to help them make their transitions. Hallow Industries often handles both before and after cases, as of course these people are obviously suffering from mental illness and it is often broadcast that if such an individual is seen and noted, that they should be encouraged to contact Hallow Industries where their illness can be treated and they can go back to their lives. The laws on half-blood and full-blood can be somewhat sketchy but as long as they show no sign of this illness, they are generally given permission via their card to use magic and purchase magical supplies. There are, of course, exceptions even in the purebloods but aren’t there little exceptions to most rules? Of course, nothing ever does run smoothly, does it? For in London, you will also find the Order of the Phoenix headquarters. Although several bunkers exist throughout the Walpurgis territories, the headquarters itself has become an almost a city: some of these people never leave; those who cannot risk it for they would be executed. Others come and go as agents, working within the community and doing what they can and saving who they can from torture, mind-control, conditioning, interrogation and even death. There are, of course, double agents within both parties filtering information but anonymity is your greatest advantage these days. Those in shadier dealings – black market magical supplies for those who don’t have permission to practice magic, intelligence supplies, etc – are often released on the assumption much of it doesn’t matter. It’s time they started to branch out into the world and dealing with such petty things could earn you some prison time but you’re hardly worth it. Besides, sometimes you’re of use to them too so these people are allowed to operate. Now the Walpurgis Alliance has set its sights on the world at large. They must be stopped but the Order and its contacts are both outnumbered and outmatched. Hope may be all they have, but sometimes, hope is enough. ![]() There will be several plotlines running through over the coming months. They mostly form from both the Orders goals and that of the Walpurgis Alliance. Order Among the major plotlines, there will be the Order attempting to cripple Hallow Industries and reverse the damage done to the victims of the war, the search for a power strong enough to bring down Voldemort and the safety of it's members. Though they have a permenant base, they need a stronger hold on society. Death Eaters So they've risen to power: keeping it is harder. They need to wipe out the resistance, keep the muggle population under control, find out what the pesky Order types are doing, train up the new guys and make babies! They have a very full schedule. Healthcare There is nothing more important to the public than it's health, so keeping this in mind, St. Mungo's is under stricter regulation than ever. St Walpurga hospital is for those who are "not functioning" and therefore need to be "fixed". Those who can't be so are killed, or if the potential is there, bitten. What government doesn't want an unholy army? Ministry The Ministry are stuck with enforcing these new laws as they come in. This can make them less than popular as you can imagine and they are having to struggle with their own beliefs versus what the new Government is telling them to do. Media Propoganda lines the streets, Hallows is praised on the front pages and those who have not adjusted and need "fixing" are begged to do so via radio public service announcements. The first step is making everything seem fine and that they are the good guys. On the flip side, the underground are trying to get their word out too via posters, announcements and making the headlines. The media is having a field day! |
